Author Interview

Asfiya Rahman

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we?!

I’m Asfiya Rahman, the author of the sports drama Wild Card and its sequel Wild Card 2. I also love to write short stories and have contributed to many anthologies. I’m an avid reader and in my spare time I enjoy travelling.

What prompted you to pursue a career as a writer?

Being a writer was a childhood dream of mine but it was only when I took a break in my career as a language teacher that I was able to foray into writing as a full time career. I started off as a freelance content writer and gradually moved towards fiction.

Do you have any special writing habits?

None really unless I’m stuck in that case its pen on paper in a late night session which helps me tackle writers block.

When you write a new book, do you already have the whole story in mind or do you elaborate it along the way?

When I start writing I have a rough idea of where the story is headed but sometimes my characters acquire a life of their own and I end up having to make changes.

In your opinion what is the best book you have written? What’s your favourite book ever?

Choosing my best written book is tough, it’s like choosing between your kids but if I had to choose o think I’d say it’s my upcoming one Wild Card 3. This one is very close to my heart and I hope the readers will love it too. My favorite book ever changes every month! Currently its Shadows of the pomegranate tree by Tariq Ali a beautiful book about the end of the moorish reign in Spain.

How do you feel after writing a book?

Mixed feelings sums it up best. There is relief at having finished the story and a sense of elation at having created something but there is also a kind of sadness at letting go of the characters which have lived with you for so long plus apprehension at how the story will be received.

Tell us about your latest book and please put the link so our readers can find it.

My last book was Wild Card 2,a sequel to Wild Card. Both books are sports dramas. Wild Card 2 is the story of Tahira, an upcoming tennis player who finds herself being forced to choose between her love and her career. The problem is she doesn’t want to make a choice, she wants both. Link:
