Author Interview

H.G Ahedi

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we?!

Hi. I am H.G Ahedi, a writer and researcher. I was born and brought up in India and I moved to Australia a decade ago. I mostly write mystery, suspense, thrillers and recently I have begun writing science fiction. I love coffee and visiting beaches around the world.

What prompted you to pursue a career as a writer?

I have been writing for a long time. I began as a avid reader and then when I had an idea a friend of mine encouraged me to write it down and see how I go. Since that day I kept putting down my stories on paper. But at that time I was an amateur and I would leave them unfinished and unpublished. However, in 2019, when I decided to self publish Haunted, I decided that I wanted to go all in and I feel that I did justice to that book. Since then I have published two more books and I try to improve with each one.

Do you have any special writing habits?

I try to write any chance I get. but its not perfect. I try to write at least 500 words every day. It also depends on the story and how excited I am about it. If I have the complete idea in my head, I can write about 5000 words a day and get the story done as soon as possible. On the other hand, if its just a vague idea and I am trying to figure out how I go, it takes me time. I do my best work when I have a goal in mine. If I tell myself this novels first draft needs to be done within a month, I most probably will and if there is a accountability partner, I get to my goal faster.

When you write a new book, do you already have the whole story in mind or do you elaborate it along the way?

In my earlier days of writing, I would go with the flow. I would just write as the story unfolded in my mind. It was fun, exciting but I rarely finished a book. But for Haunted, I took a used a different method because for the first time in my life I was serious about my writing. This fact changed the way I wrote. I followed the snowflake method (to a certain extent) and created my story step by step. It didn’t mean that I knew everything that would happen in the book but my first draft was drastically better and because I could see a possible end, I finished the novel. (If you are interested read more about the snowflake method). Then my friends got a look at the first draft and they provided really helpful feedback. I modified it and also got further feedback from a novel developer. She gave me some valuable insights that I would never forget. The last draft was very different from the first one, but hell, it was fantastic! For my next two books, I used the same lessons I learned when I published Haunted and also applied the good feedback I got from my readers about Haunted. Most of them loved Haunted, and they wanted to know more about the characters. Haunted was a plot driven novel, which was well accept. The next step for me was to balance between the plot and the characters which I did in my next two books – Black Moon and Calculated Murder.

In your opinion what is the best book you have written? What’s your favourite book ever?

Haha. I can’t choose. If you had asked in 2019, I would have probably said Haunted. But between the three mystery thrillers that I have published, I cannot pick which one was the best. Obviously, I have improved. But each of my books have their own perks. I own several books I love, but there is one that I never get tired of reading. Complete collection of Sherlock Holmes.

How do you feel after writing a book?

Very excited. Its like taking the story out my head, putting it on paper and sharing it with the world. Its a beautiful feeling. I feel a bit exhausted as well, but once I see my book on the platform, I get very excited and its likely that within a week or so I will begin working on my next book.

Tell us about your latest book and please put the link so our readers can find it.

I released Calculated Murder on the 1st of Aug 2020. It is a mystery thriller set in New York that revolves around the murder of a millionaire playboy Garner Moss. It is not surprising to anyone when his mistress is blamed for his murder. What comes as a shock to everyone is that Roumoult Cranston becomes the second most likely suspect who has never met the victim face to face and benefits greatly from the deadman’s will. As the story unfolds, Roumoult discovers a minor inconsistency in victim’s life (Garner Moss) and opens a Pandora box. Things get more darker and exciting from this point on and you can read the first three chapters by clicking the link below. Read more here:  The book is also available on Apple, Kobo, and Google Play. Just type “H.G Ahedi Calculated Murder” For paperback version please check Amazon.

I am so glad you asked. My next (and fourth book) comes out in first week of Oct 2020. Its called Transcendence and it is my first historical Science Fiction novella. The idea which turned into this novella came to me out of no where when I was just about to fall a sleep. This happened in April 2019, and I remember searching for my phone in the dark and typing out the idea in the notes. I thought I would forget about it. I did not. Over the last one year I worked on the idea and its almost ready to go. It focusing on a soldier in world war 2 who expects to die from a blast but miraculously survives. Since miraculous are so rare he begins to investigate the real story behind his survival. As the days pass, he realizes that he is fight two wars and there are more sinister beings in this universe than the Nazi’s. Transcendence is on preorder in all platforms (Amazon, Kobo, Google Play and Apple) and I would be announcing a cover reveal soon. Read more about transcendence over here:
