Author Interview

Kruti Shash

Let’s get you introduced to everyone, shall we?!

I am Kruti Shash, an India-based author, communications specialist, and mother of two. I commit my leisure time to reading, travelling, making rangolis, and playing board games with my family.

What prompted you to pursue a career as a writer?

I’d always loved scribbling prank notes and making my own stories as a child. So when I took a career break while raising my young kids, I thought of writing as a convenient hobby to keep myself productively occupied. Drawing on my experience in marketing communications, and a research stint in anti-HIV drugs at a pharmaceutical company, I began writing what was originally intended to be a short story. But over the months, ideas and information kept coming my way, and before long, I was thoroughly steeped in all things ‘pharma.’ With a little encouragement from my husband, ‘The Aquila Trials’ finally happened.

Do you have any special writing habits?

Travel diaries, research notes, to-do lists, small reminders – I write them all.

When you write a new book, do you already have the whole story in mind or do you elaborate it along the way?

No, a lot of things evolve along the way.

In your opinion what is the best book you have written? What’s your favourite book ever?

I’ve written only one novel, and that’s my best. The others are textbooks on advertising. I love most of Michael Crichton’s works.

How do you feel after writing a book?

Satisfied, and eager to get a feedback. 🙂

‘The Aquila Trials’ is a medical thriller that exposes Big Pharma’s attempt to take over the lucrative Indian market and the struggle of a righteous biotechnologist to curb the medical marketing revolution. My “faction” enlightens readers about several industry-related issues such as medicalization and disease mongering, missing clinical trial data, regulatory loopholes, drug marketing hogwash, manipulation of consumers in cyber space, and so on. It’s a David vs. Goliath story featuring corporate arm-twisting, intense drama, and thrill that pits the wits of Chanakya against Sun Tzu’s. A video trailer of my story can be viewed on YouTube at .
